What should christians wear to the beach

John Piper, founder and teacher of desiringGod. Modesty should start with the staff and leaders of ministries who should serve as models for other Christians.

Ministry leaders should quietly talk to the parents first "instead of attacking things at the most painful point of the way the girls and boys are dressing.

Christian leaders should "cultivate the joyful sense that modesty is beautiful" and "renounce any mindset that modest means frumpy. Piper says based from his own experience, "I can testify without any doubt that at every age of my life, my masculine life, my hungry life" that "sexy dressing of women is less attractive than modest beauty.

Of course, it makes the eyes turn, but there is a world of difference between making men's eyes turn with sexy dressing and being attractive as a beautiful or a handsome person. And thank you for your kind words to me. I appreciate them. God bless you! It may seem quite hard but sometimes the truth hurt.

As we grow with God and in God our sanctification also grows and God could give us specific instructions that could apply only to us. Notwithstanding this is the pure word of God and scripture has it role in rebuking and training in righteousness. So thumbs up Efua, May God grant us all grace to be instruments of righteousness regardless of our cultural differences.

I no longer go to beaches or pools where nearly naked hoards of folks are. I agree — however what should one wear on a summer holiday do you think? You think shorts are ok? Not silly tight hot pants that seem to be the fashion in England right now, just regular shorts or … a shorter flared skirt for comfort and in order to air the legs, especially if you come from a cold country and need vitamin D dosage?

Hi Lana. Great to have another follower from England. I live in Manchester. I think once you are not naked, and your spirit is ok with what you are wearing, then that is fine. Very controversial topic and i will use myself as an example even though i have never worn a bikini. While i have had to wear shorts sometimes due to the hot texas weather, i have always been conscious of how i look or what i portrayed with the way am dressed.

As a believer who is also striving each day to be what God wants me to be,two things cross my mind each time i want to go out of the house. The first is what is my purpose or mindset for putting this on, and will this cause others to sin against God?

This questions always keep me in check. Great write up as always. Yes indeed! I so agree what all you said!

Good food for thoughts too. Especially discussing your points from Scripture. Bikinis are popular…but are they not stumbling blocks for some? Thank you for reading, commenting and reblogging. God bless you. Are you teaching Sunday School or involved in active ministry? Just a guess. Thanks for the compliment and I thank the Holy Spirit for the revelation of His word.

Good bless you for all you do. You really hit the nail on this one, really appreciate your boldness and passion. I use to have the same exact questions and convictions myself. Hi sis. Thanks for stopping by. I was challenged by the Lord some years ago about what is acceptable for a Christian woman to wear, and I changed many of the clothing items in my wardrobe as a consequence. Normally this is underwear on the beach in public!

However, I have just found another blogger who recommended the following site for alternative, modest coverings for swimming and beach use. They offer tunic dresses, skirts and leggings in lycra — meanttobemodest. Hi Helen. Thanks so much for your comment. I will also read your post about modesty. Good to know you are from England too. Whereabout are you? I also listened to an excellent speaker on this immodesty subject.

She was afraid to come out of the locker She was as nervous as she could be She was afraid to come out of the locker She was afraid that somebody would see Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore! It was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini That she wore for the first time today. An itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini So in the locker she wanted to stay. Praise the Lord Jesus! I think this is such an important topic! How do we honor the Lord with the skin we expose?

Collar bones and ankles do not have the same effect on people as they once did. But the more and more we shed clothing the more and more we give to the world. We let eyes glance at us, and yet, point our fingers in the air, telling others NOT to look at us.

But if bikinis were the only problem… yoga pants will make a man fall faster than anything in my opinion. And far more prevalent than bikinis. Modesty is paramount. Modesty is paramount indeed! However I addressed the issue of bikinis because of what I have observed with Christian ladies. Some of us who say we are Christian have allowed Society to put us a place where we have become very selfish.

Gal 2. Paul is another perfect example of living a selfless life. A life that will impart and change lives by bringing them to christ. This is our purpose on earth, to serve others and not to please our own Egos, and certainly not to entice other people whom pleases their own Egotistical pleasure.

Remembering always that we are the salt of the earth, we are here to protect and to preserve. Thank you! I have been on both sides of this issue. When I became saved I had no idea I needed to change the way I looked. I thought Jesus loves me I am good.

But over time I have been convicted of more and more about all areas of my life not just clothing. I am in total agreement with you. I think many can relate with your comment. This post was written with matured believers in mind not really for new converts. I am glad that you are now on the other side sis. Thank God for helping us grow. I will have to go over this posting because I need to go sleep but I must say I am very impressed, you are a LADY indeed that God must be pleased with.

As a man and being save for 21 years I have seen a lot and heard a lot in the body of Christ. My eyes are filled with tears just to read your expression it is encouraging that there are women out there that uphold the standard.

You also help to remind me that I have something I could write about I would privately share the topic with you so you may research and write about it too. It is something that revealed to me late and in I speak about it to some people. You are a good writer you might write better than me I just decided to start blogging. I pray that God is pleased with me. I do fall short but I am learning to pick myself up quickly.

Thanks for the compliment. With regards to the issue of modesty, I think many believers know what is right and wrong but they have chosen to please fleshy desires instead of following what God wants.

With regards to being a good writer, like I mentioned to someone earlier today, we all have enough in us to do what God has called us to do. So you are a good writer too. I only write what God wants me to the way I know how to. Thanks for your response we all fall short at times we are living this human experience for trails, testings, mistakes, choices and influences.

You are very much right on the choice many believers make to please fleshly desire and they know the truth and the Holy Ghost often deal with their conscience. Regarding my revelation: email me. My email is mmaurice35 gmail. This revelation may have sprang out of what I am going through and I have learned and observed many other men have gone through both Christians and non -Christians.

I thank God for your passion to do these writing, your encouragement will lift me to greater dimension, I will learn from you. Thanks again and a bigger thanks to God who gave us this gift to use for His glory. You can send me an email by using my contact page. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. I agree with this 1 million percent. Nudity is now looked at as something normal when modesty is frowned upon. No normal Christian can be comfortable with nudity, if they are then they clearly need to search themselves wholeheartedly.

When dealing with this subjective issue of modesty, a Christian woman should ask herself what her motives are for wearing such a thing and if she believes that what she is wearing would draw lust out of a man or not it most probably will whether she believes it or not , and if she is seeking the will of the Lord in her appearance.

Of course, she cannot be responsible for every male especially since she can be wearing a tent and some guy would be lusting. Rather, her responsibility is before the Lord and to use her body in a godly and sanctified way since her beauty is a gift from God.

Her obligation is to God first. Therefore, she should pray and ask God what would be appropriate for modesty and then seek to draw men not with the flesh, but with godliness.
