This is primarily accomplished by frequent Disney collaborator and songsmith, Alan Menken. There isn't a Disney movie out there with wit as sharp as this one's with much of it probably lost on the audience guessing by the rating given to this movie. Breaking from tradition, her character is not all that lady-like in her biting wit and sarcasm, but it works, serving to make the movie funny and her character lovable despite working with questionable motives.
The set-up and plot is typical for the movie but the script, animation, and music are most original AND good. After the Cyclops attacks Thebes, Hercules goes to defeat him, brushing off Meg when she tries to stop him, but the one-eyed giant overpowers him until Phil returns to encourage him, and the former falls off a cliff to his death. He then gets his strength back Meg's sacrifice having broken a deal he made with Hades prior , and goes to Olympus, saving the gods and destroying the Titans for good.
Unfortunately, this proves to be a hollow victory, as The Fates cut Meg's thread of life, causing her to succumb to her wounds. Determined to save Meg, Hercules descends to the Underworld and confronts Hades. He then makes a deal with his uncle: exchange Meg's soul for his own. He dives into the Styx River, and just as he is about to perish of accelerated aging due to its effects, his godhood returns and he is able to emerge unharmed. Hades then tries to bargain with his nephew, but the latter knocks him into the river.
He returns Meg's soul to her body, and they are taken to Olympus. There, Zeus and Hera reveal that it was his selfless sacrifice that restored his godhood. However, Hercules turns down the offer to return to the kingdom of the gods to live with Meg, finally knowing his place is with her. Because of Zeus's unfaithfulness, Hera hated Heracles. Heracles had also a twin half-brother, Iphicles. Iphicles was the son of Alcmene's mortal husband Prince Amphitryon he's also Alcmene's brother , while Heracles was a son of Zeus.
Heracles was originally named Alcides, but his names changed to mollify Hera.
